Mobility

Many older adults may feel unsteady and fear falling over and may experience a decline in strength and balance following a hospital stay, due to illness or deconditioning. As a side effect they may avoid moving about - which leads to more muscle weakness. Being unable to do daily activities such as walking, getting dressed, cooking, housework, gardening, shopping and driving is incredibly frustrating.

A few sessions of physiotherapy in your own home can be very beneficial. Following a thorough assessment of your abilities, we have the skills to help you improve your balance, strength and confidence using simple exercises that you can do sitting in a chair or standing up and  advise on walking aids that can help you get about.

Home visits are also helpful if you are finding it difficult to move before or after hip, knee or shoulder surgery. Prehab (rehabilitation before surgery) enables you to recover more quickly after surgery. Post-surgery rehabilitation helps you regain your mobility, functioning and independence.

I have recently had a hip replacement operation and was walking, unaided, within a week of the procedure. My secret weapon is Physio in the Sticks. Amanda recommended a series of "pre-hab" exercises which, with her regular support, I used for six weeks prior to the operation. Thus building up the muscle support around the joint. Amanda made frequent interventions to ensure the exercises were appropriate at all stages. No crutches and a stick for just five days after leaving hospital. The results speak for themselves. Amanda has helped to make this potentially traumatic experience as easy and painless as possible. John
